Lotte and Emilie's Car Accident

January 18th, 1999.

January 18th,1999 is a day, I will never forget. Lotte and Emilie were coming for a visit, and Lotte rang just before she set of. They were coming for dinner, and it was already getting dark outside. The trip would take about an hour. After two hours had gone by, and they still hadn't arrived, I began to worry. I began to wonder, what had happened. Three hours had passed, when I got a call from the local hospital, in the town we live in. They had just admitted Lotte and Emilie, as they had been involved in an accident. Lotte had lost control over the car, and somehow ended up in the other side of the road, only to slide down a steep hill. The car turned over twice, pulling up several trees and ended up in a forest at the bottom of the hill. The fact, that they were found in the dark, is a miracle in itself, as nobody had vitnessed the acccident. They had waited for somebody to find them for over an hour. By then there was hardly any light left on the car. Luckily somebody saw them, and called for help. Lotte was very badly hurt, but Emilie was totally unharmed. The only seat in the car, which was intact, was the seat where Emilies chair had been strapped on to. Lotte was after a short check-up driven to a larger hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive ward. Emilie however, was allowed  home with us that very same evening. Although we were chocked, we also felt very lucky, that Emilie was fine. She was after all very small and fragile. Lotte stayed in hospital for 15 days, and it was a very tough time. We were all worried, as she had just had a kidney transplant 6 months earlier, and there was a risk of losing the kidney. Somehow this nightmare turned out fine at the end. Lotte, Emilie (and the kidney) survived.

I can't help feeling, that somebody from above was keeping an eye on them.

Emilie's seat was totally intact.
